  • 13 Assassins

There’s no way I could top this on-demand movie review from Ground Zero: “13 Assassins” takes the men-on-a-mission cliche of Westerns and samurai movies and dresses it in crazy pants. The movie is just this: Twelve samurai and one fool are dispatched to kill the evil Lord Naritsugu, who’s protected by both his political associations Read.

  • Pink Saris

Here’s the blurb for the movie Pink Saris that made me want to see it: Sampat Pal Devi doesn’t take any guff. A short, powerful woman in a hot pink sari, she fearlessly challenges and intimidates men twice her size in a community where she is considered a second-class citizen at best. Leader of the Read.

Day off from work today with My Darling B – AWESOME! And not just today but tomorrow and Friday, too, so we can cram as much movie watching into the five days of the Wisconsin Film Festival as possible. • Talkies

Tickets went on sale for the Wisconsin Film Fest at noon today. We had the films we wanted to see picked out the night before and sat waiting with the web browser of the most dependable computer in the house parked on the film fest web site, mouse-clicking finger poised ready to hit the “buy Read.

As his crimes against humanity are detailed Read.

  • Apollo 18

The announcement that there’d soon be a movie released about Apollo 18 caught my eye because it had the word “Apollo” in it and because there was no 18th mission to the moon. This monster movie is supposed to explain why that is, which got me all jazzed up because, you know, rockets and astronauts Read.

  • New Year’s Eve

Today’s New Year’s Eve so we get the day off because we’re state workers. It’s one of the benefits that are showered on us like confetti at a hero’s ticker-tape parade. I can’t wait to see how that’s going to change. Watch this space. But for now, we’re enjoying the day off: Sleeping in a Read.

  • Off the record

Today’s weekly visit to the thrift store at St. Vincent de Paul’s turned up four fabulous LPs, and don’t even ask me what an LP is because I’ll only give you a look that would freeze you solid where you stand, you heathen. It’s not easy to find an LP worth taking home from the Read.

  • Hobson’s Choice

Picking me up after work this evening, My Darling B advised me that for dinner we could go have pizza at Roman Candle or go have pizza at Mickey’s. Hobson’s Choice, in other words. We ended up at Mickey’s, largely because we didn’t have to double back through traffic to get there. Both of us Read.

On Father’s Day I get to do whatever the hell I want to do, and what I’ve wanted to do all morning is sit in front of my computer monitor in my underwear reading goofy shit off the interwebs. Here’s the first thing that made me laugh out loud: It’s a Star Wars joke, which, Read.
