I spent yesterday morning and all afternoon tearing the old doors off the garden shed, then rebuilding and rehanging new doors, with a lot of help from My Darling B, who volunteered her time to go to the lumber yard with me and also to hang the doors.
I wish I had a better “before” shot of the shed doors so you could more accurately appreciate the truly crappy condition they were in. The plywood was so warped that it was impossible to close the doors tightly; there was a pretty big gap between the tops of the doors and the shed which let in the rain, which is sort of the opposite of what you want a door to do. The trim was warped and so thoroughly rotted in places that it simply broke apart when I tried to unscrew the fasteners holding it on. And the left-hand door was just barely attached to the shed. The hinges were in good shape but the fasteners had all pulled free. I honestly don’t know how it was still hanging on.
The new doors hang straight and swing true and they entirely block the doorway so the rain that’s been falling all night and this morning hasn’t gotten into the shed, which is generally what you want doors to do.
