I found my student loan paperwork today. I went to college back when you could get a college education for the price of a pretty average, new car, if that helps you figure out how long ago that was. The promissory notes show that I borrowed $250 to cover the balance of tuition for the first semester, and another $250 to cover the second. The second year I borrowed a total of $812, and the year after that I had to ask for $1,750, the most I borrowed in any year. The fourth year I borrowed $955.03. I went to school for an extra semester, so I had to borrow an additional $1,591.40 to get it over and done with.
That made the sum total of my student debt $5,608.43 for four and a half years at a state college. I paid most of it off in $30.00 increments over eight years before I paid off the balance in one lump sum. The gold old days, eh?
