The Porcupine Mountains
I’m back home from a three-day hiking trip to the Porcupine Mountains in the upper peninsula of Michigan. I left Madison last Sunday morning, hiked the back country Monday and Tuesday, and returned home this afternoon. I didn’t camp in the back country. Looking back now, I kind of regret not doing that, but this Read.

IAT – Sauk Point
I took the day off from work today, so I drove up past Sauk City to walk the Sauk Point segment of the Ice Age Trail as far as Highway 113. One-way that’s 4.2 miles, but I had to walk it out and back to return to my van, so a total of 8.4 miles. Read.

East Star Lake 9-15-2024 — 9-18-2024
I drove up to Star Lake on Sunday, September 15th. I left home a little after nine o’clock in the morning and arrived at the East Star Lake State Park at quarter past one in the afternoon. I had booked a site at West Star Lake State Park, on the other side of the lake, Read.

got gas?
Here’s a weird thing about Manhattan: There are no gas stations, or almost none. The whole time we were there, we saw just two gas stations, and we walked up and down a lot of streets. In six days, we saw just two places selling gas. It was weird, because we saw a lot of Read.

Skyscraper Museum
Then there was the Skyscraper Museum. A museum about skyscrapers. It was in New York City because where else would you have a Skyscraper Museum? We almost didn’t find the Skyscraper Museum. It’s just north of Battery Park where the streets are so old that they tie themselves in knots so that the address numbers Read.

NYC at night
New York City at night, looking south from the top of the Empire State Building. (Click on the photo to see it in MEGAVISION!) Fifth Avenue shoots straight down the middle of the island; Broadway cuts across it at an angle. The tallest sparkly tower in the middle distance is the new World Trade Center. Read.

charging bull
My Darling B posed for her picture with the charging bull of Wall Street, except that it’s not on Wall Street, it’s on Bowling Green at the bottom of Broadway, just north of Battery Park. In fact, it was never on Wall Street. But it is a bull. The artist who made it, Arturo Di Read.

Who You Gonna Call?
It’s one of those things you’ve got to see when you go to New York City: The Ghostbusters firehouse. Read.
