    I wanted to get out on the IAT this afternoon but I didn’t have time to go far, so I picked a segment I’ve been putting off because it runs through a golf course. Not the most interesting segment I’ve been on & I doubt I’ll ever be in a hurry to revisit it. Read.

    By 1:30 pm I was done walking the Pine Road loop and I still wasn’t ready to head home, so I went for a hat trick — three hikes in one day. According to my guidebook, there was a nearby hike on the IAT I could walk as a loop, so I headed south to Read.

    I finally checked the Table Bluff segment of the Ice Age Trail off my to-do list. I’ve been up in that neck of the woods many times — I hiked the Indian Lake segment just a couple weeks ago, and the lower half of the Cross Plains segment twice, but for whatever reason I kept Read.

    Three weeks ago, I spent five days with dozens of other volunteers helping cut a new trail through the woods near Luck, Wisconsin, for the Ice Age Trail Alliance. This was my first IATA trail-building event. I’ve been walking the Ice Age Trail for a couple years. The trail stretches around what had been the Read.

    It was such a beautiful day today, I had to get out for a walk, and I wanted to walk a trail I hadn’t visited before, so I drove north and west to check out the Indian Lake segment of the Ice Age Trail. I didn’t walk the full length of the segment so I’ll Read.

    It was a good day to hike the IAT Blackhawk segment, so that’s what I did. The skies were clear and sunny but the temps were very cold — 20 F when I arrived, 28 F when I departed — so I had to dress up in many layers, and even then I was pretty Read.

    Went for a little hike this afternoon on the Cross Plains segment of the Ice Age Trail. Today was a relatively warm day with temps in the high 30s, which was good and bad. Good, because it was easy for me to keep warm. Bad, because the trail, which had previously been frozen solid, was Read.

    This was a very pleasant afternoon walk in the woods. Moderately easy, but still a satisfying hike over gently hilly terrain. I parked my van in the lot on Clover Valley Road and walked as far as Esterly Road, 2.8 miles, before turning back. I would have liked to go as far as Highway 12 Read.

  • IAT Brooklyn segment

    IAT Brooklyn segment

    ,

    I walked the Brooklyn segment of the Ice Age Trail from the north end to the south and back to the north end, about 6 miles in two and a half hours. I’m feeling pretty well-chuffed about going that far in less time than the 3.7 mile hike I made yesterday, both with a 20-pound Read.
