comfort read
Yesterday I tried to distract myself from the events of the day as much as possible and, for a few short hours before the world woke up and began to obsess, I didn’t see enough in the news media or on social media to trouble me. That was never going to last, of course. When Read.

served
Our trip to NYC was the first vacation My Darling B and I have taken together since March 2020. Yeah, it’s been a while. When Barb booked our flight to NYC, she managed to snag us a couple seats in the first class section of the plane for less than the cost of seats in Read.

gloved
With daytime temps in the 30s, we had to bundle up against the weather every day we were in NYC. I could get by with a pair of trousers below my waist but wore many layers on my torso, usually an undershirt, a long-sleeved cotton shirt, and a flannel shirt. When I went outside, I Read.

block block block
I have done what feels like a terrible thing: I blocked the American Red Cross on my phone because they won’t stop calling me. I used to donate blood and plasma regularly, ever since I was allowed to. I remember donating to the blood drive that came to my home town and set up in Read.

IAT Devil’s Lake segment
I drove up to Sauk County to walk the Devil’s Lake segment of the Ice Age Trail. This is the continuation of the Sauk Point segment that I hiked on 10/14/2024 right up to County Highway 113, which is where I started hiking today. I intended to walk only as far as the IAT campground Read.

The Porcupine Mountains
I’m back home from a three-day hiking trip to the Porcupine Mountains in the upper peninsula of Michigan. I left Madison last Sunday morning, hiked the back country Monday and Tuesday, and returned home this afternoon. I didn’t camp in the back country. Looking back now, I kind of regret not doing that, but this Read.

IAT – Sauk Point
I took the day off from work today, so I drove up past Sauk City to walk the Sauk Point segment of the Ice Age Trail as far as Highway 113. One-way that’s 4.2 miles, but I had to walk it out and back to return to my van, so a total of 8.4 miles. Read.

North Trout Lake State Park 9-2-2024 — 9-4-2024
Back today from a three-night campout at the North Trout Lake campground in the North Highlands — American Legion State Forest. I originally scheduled for just two nights, Tuesday and Wednesday, but I got some camping gear in the mail that I couldn’t wait to try out: a hammock, fly, and quilts, and a lightweight Read.

road rage
Just got home from a road trip to Denver and back. Never thought I’d say anything like this, but after driving in the traffic around the Denver metro area I hope I’ll never complain about Madison traffic ever again. Not that I think Madison drivers are great. They’re not. They’re pretty piss-poor drivers by any Read.
