    I walked the Brooklyn segment of the Ice Age Trail from the north end to the south and back to the north end, about 6 miles in two and a half hours. I’m feeling pretty well-chuffed about going that far in less time than the 3.7 mile hike I made yesterday, both with a 20-pound Read.

    I walked only a short section of this segment today, partly because the trail was really very muddy, so muddy I thought a one point about halfway up the hill I was pretty sure I was going to slip in the mud and slide though it all the way down the hill. Happily, that did Read.

    My hike around the arboretum this morning turned into a speed walk because it was a lot colder and windier outside than I thought it was. Also, it started to rain. Luckily I was wearing my heavy coat with a hooded foul-weather shell I could button up tightly to stay dry and reasonably warm, all Read.

  • North Trout Lake, Jun 17-19

    I spent last Friday and Saturday night at a state campground on North Trout Lake to do a little hiking, a little paddling, but mostly just to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. The campground seems to be really popular and I can see why. It’s right on the shore of the lake, which Read.

    The thermometer said it was twenty degrees outside but it was such a bright and sunny morning that I wrapped up in several layers and went for a walk anyway. There haven’t been a lot of opportunities in the past few weeks to take a leisurely walk, not without being forced to take into consideration Read.
