Not really hiking the Ice Age Trail, more like trail maintenance. I spent the morning and part of the afternoon today with volunteers working to remove buckthorn and honeysuckle from a wooded area at the University Ridge golf course. I was led to believe that buckthorn was the worst of the two to handle, but in this newbie’s humble opinion it seems that honeysuckle is much more difficult to disentangle and cut. Removing buckthorn is no walk in the park but it was a simple matter to pull it apart and I could cut through inch-thick branches with a lopper; honeysuckle, not so much. I may change my mind after a few more of these exercises but for now, honeysuckle it the worst.
