flashback – Boundary Waters ’83

I went back to the Boundary Waters with a buddy from my hometown. I was smart enough to write the date on the back of one of the photos: 1983.

This is from a box full of photos which I was certain I had lost. Finding them again was the highlight of my day.

A calm lake with partly cloudy skies overhead; a canoe is tied up at the shore in the foreground; trees crowd the shoreline in the background
Our canoe tied up at the shore of our camp site.
a man in a canoe paddles across the calm waters of a lake, framed by the trunk and limbs of a tree in the foreground; trees crowd the lake shore in the background
Paddling buddy Roy Suehs looks for a place to catch some fish.
a young man kneels over a Coleman gas stove, where he is pan-frying the perch he caught earlier in the evening
Roy pan-fries his catch for dinner.
a narrow river flows over a row of rocks across the stream; green evergreen trees crowd the shoreline
The lake photos all look the same, but I like this shot of a river tumbling over a row of rocks. I wonder if we had to portage around this, or if we found a gap in the rocks and simply plunged through it?
a golden sunset sky over a lake; there's the outline of a person watching it in the foreground
Roy watches the sun set over the lake.
A calm lake with islands in the distance; a small camp fire is burning on the shoreline in the foreground
One more photo of a lake from our camp site, with a small fire burning in the foreground.
