This was a very pleasant afternoon walk in the woods. Moderately easy, but still a satisfying hike over gently hilly terrain.
I parked my van in the lot on Clover Valley Road and walked as far as Esterly Road, 2.8 miles, before turning back. I would have liked to go as far as Highway 12 but I had to be home by 4 pm so I was on a deadline and wasn’t sure I could fit the whole trip into the time I had. I’ll return to finish off this segment & continue on.
The trail skirts the edge of the Whitewater Lake Campground. It was closed for the season so there were no campers in it. I spent maybe twenty minutes exploring the various camp sites laid out along the IAT and I have to say most of them looked very inviting. I could probably spend a happy weekend camping there, paddling the lake, and hiking the trail.
