Let me tell you what I did yesterday. Don’t skip ahead to the end. There’s a surprise twist.
I got up a little earlier than I had planned. It was either that, or lie in bed wondering how much longer my indigestion was going to bother me. I made myself a pot of very dark coffee and sipped it for about two hours while I keyed some drivel into this blog. By the time I finished, my stomach felt almost normal. Magical stuff, coffee.
Then I went to brunch at Crema Cafe with My Darling B. It was a lovely time, but can I just say that people who “reserve” a table when there are a dozen people in line by hanging their coats over the chairs should be horse whipped? I can? Oh, thank you. I’ve been dying to say that.
After brunch, we planned to drop in at the Toyota service center to ask them to turn our “check engine” light off. They can usually do that in about an hour – they have to crawl under it and take the tires off, it’s pretty complicated; you’d think there’d be a switch for that – but when we got there, there were three cars waiting in front of each service bay and about a dozen cars waiting in the parking lot, so we decided to try again on Monday and got the heck out of there.
That left us with some time to kill, so we wandered through the aisles of Half-Price Books for thirty minutes or so, then went home to pet the cat.
We spent the afternoon at the cinema watching the Tom Hanks movie Bridge of Spies, a terrific movie. If you like Tom Hanks even a little bit, you should go see it. Right now. I’ll wait.
Finally, we went home, ate supper, watched a little TV and went to bed. Notice that, at no time in this description of my day did I say anything remotely like “I went to the office and worked all day until I was exhausted, then went home and collapsed in my easy chair.” That simply did not happen. We both took the day off from work on Friday, and we’re going to do it again on Monday. It’s a staycation, and we’re enjoying it immensely, thank you very much.
