Ladies and gentlemen, The Crazy 8!
One summer – it must have been 1978 or 1979 – a bunch of my high school friends and I rented the dance hall at a tavern on the edge of town (called The Edge Of Town, so you wouldn’t forget where it was) and, for one night only, played polka tunes from a pile of song books we had collected over the years, just to see how that would go. To our enormous surprise, quite a lot of people showed up, and they seemed to have a pretty good time, too.
In the front row, left to right: Roy Suehs, me, and Barbie Mentzel. I can’t remember the name of the girl next to Barbie.
In the top photo I can see Joan Retzke and Greg Hoffland in the second row; in the bottom photo it looks like Pam McKellips joined them.
In the back row, Steve Fenske is playing drums and that’s Dave Rohde on the tuba.
