Here’s my idea for trying to stop politicians from spending billions of dollars on campaigns: The maximum that any one person can contribute to any political campaign in any way is one dollar. It’s an amount that virtually everybody can afford, so anyone’s contribution carries just as much weight as anybody else’s.
Not that I think this will put an end once and for all to runaway campaign spending. There is no doubt in my mind that the peckerheads in Washington and every state capitol would find ways around a limitation like this in an afternoon, and make it sound like a virtue the next day.
