limber, not

I told my Mom that B & I were taking yoga classes, and she asked:

How is the Sun Salutation, Warrior One and Warrior Two, etc going? You and B are going to be so limber you’ll be able to tie yourself in knots. Or are you doing that already?

Ah, no, we are not limber. I have my doubts we will ever be anything like limber, no matter how far you stretch the definition of the word. But we really, really have to do something regularly to keep in shape and this is something that agrees with us, so we’ll probably keep doing it. We’re even thinking about going twice a week later in the season when winter weather tends to keep us both cooped up inside, mostly intert. We are not cold weather folk.

I don’t know exactly what Warrior One and Warrior Two are. The instructor asks us to do these things but she never gave us specific instructions telling us what we were supposed to do. That’s not her thing. We’re supposed to be in our own bodies. Maybe that works for some people but I want more than just the hint we got when we watched her do it the first one or two times. Eventually she did come around and give my hips a tweak when she said “Downward Dog” and I once again stuck my butt in the air in a goofy cartoon version of what she demonstrated the first day, so I feel better about that particular pose. The other poses, not so much, but maybe through sheer repetition and a few more hints we’ll get better so that, by the end of winter, we’re doing them the way they’re supposed to be done.
