sans alarm

Even though I didn’t have to, and the alarm on my phone didn’t go off, and the cat didn’t walk on my face, and there was no thunder and lightning, and the house and the street and the city was utterly quiet, no car alarms, no sirens, no squadrons of chirping crickets – even so, I woke promptly at five o’clock this morning. Sheesh.
