Cleanup night! While My Darling B chopped up vegetables, getting them ready to dump into a wok for a tasty dinner of stir-fry, I changed into rags, dragged a bucket of cleansers and solvents from the hall closet and scrubbed the shit out of the bathroom. Literally, I guess.
Every time I do that, I’m stunned to find yet more evidence of how much hair we shed on a weekly basis. We’re not terribly hairy mammals, not compared to some I’ve seen, and yet somehow we shed an impressive amount for a pair of such bald, pink-skinned creatures.
Other than the hair, there wasn’t a lot to clean up this week. It typically looks like a whole frat house was using it after a Friday night on the town but we must’ve gone easy this past week, or we were especially fastidious about our early morning ablutions, or both. Or maybe even we forgot to shower before going to work. Neither one of us are what you’d call morning people. It’s possible we just bumbled straight into our clothes and left without so much as brushing our teeth and never noticed.
After dinner I had to clean up the kitchen and wash a pile of dishes. How two people fill a sink with more dirty dishes every night than a standard dish washer can hold is a mystery to me. I washed the stuff that wouldn’t fit by hand, along with the stuff that doesn’t get washed in the machine like the Pyrex measuring cups with the cheap-ass red hash marks that wash off in hot water. I’d like to slap a mouthful of suds in the face of the genius who thought that one up.
There was a bunch of kitchen scraps to take out to the composting can, not that there’s been a lot of composting going on these past two or three months. But spring is coming, theoretically, so we’re saving up. And after that was taken care of I threw a load of dirty clothes in the wash machine, because the magically-always-overflowing laundry hamper had vomited a big heap of lights and darks all over the floor, big surprise. Once that was done, I called it a day, mixed myself a martini, took it and my butt to the recliner and rewarded myself with an episode of The West Wing. Which seemed kind of candy-coated after a weekend of House of Cards, but maybe I needed that.
