    I think his point is to counter the argument that is sometimes made in favor of war, being that war brings overall economic benefits to society as a whole through industrial mobilization, resource-grabbing, etc. I mean, criticisms of “war profiteers” has been an important plank in antiwar arguments since at least the War of US Independence.
