catch-up

Today I took care of a hodgepodge of things I probably would’ve gotten done yesterday if I hadn’t gone shopping for a refrigerator with My Darling B, then rented a truck to haul the refrigerator we bought home, then hauled the refrigerator home, then returned the truck, then moved the refrigerator into the basement, collapsed in a heap on the floor, spent and disinclined to move a muscle for the rest of the day.

I would usually listen to Says You, our favorite radio show, while drinking my morning coffee, but My Darling B was already dressed and out the door when the show came on, trying to get as much time in her garden before the very air became hot enough to cook her like a chicken in a convection oven. I thought I would listen to the radio while I was washing the dishes, but I didn’t get started washing the dishes until much later because I was in the basement, cleaning the cat boxes, which in turn led me to plunge out the basement toilet when it became clogged with a little too much kitty litter and cat turds. Fun.

After the aforementioned washing of the dishes, I got to work tidying up the extra room. Sean’s coming to stay with us for a few days and I didn’t think he’d appreciate having to clear away all the crap piled up on the bed in there, so I did it for him.

First, I had to roll up the sleeping bags that were still piled loose on the bed from two or three weeks ago when I brought them out to use on a visit to Jim & Sue’s that turned out to be more of a slumber party than a camp-out. I was going to roll them up and store them in stuff sacks, but the local outdoorsy store didn’t have big enough stuff sacks. Thank goodness for Hefty bags. But before I could put the rolled-up, Hefty-bagged sleeping bags away, I had to haul out the vacuum cleaner to clean up the mouse turds that were all over the shelf where the bags are stored, because yuck. There were a couple other bags I had to haul down and clean off before I could clean up the mouse turds. Then I had to rearrange all the bags because they didn’t fit the way they were in there before. Then I had sit down and take a load off.

Back in the extra room, I moved all the furniture around. It seemed like a good idea at the time, and I wasn’t hot and tired enough, so I moved the bed to the middle of the room, put the dresser where the bed used to be, shoved the desk across the room where the dresser used to be, then twisted the bed around so the head was where the desk used to be. There just isn’t enough room in there for all that furniture, but at least now we can open the closet door. Can’t get across the room to the book cases, though. What we really need is some kind of fold-away bed, yet another home improvement project to add to a list that stretches from here to eternity.

I also replaced an electrical outlet that was old and the wires were exposed. That’s been bugging me for months.

And then, after taking an armload of books to the basement, I stretched out on the recliner and rested my eyes for about twenty minutes. I just don’t get enough naps. I didn’t get one yesterday, and I didn’t want the whole day today without getting a nap. My weekend would’ve felt completely wasted if I hadn’t gotten one. It was a good nap. Bonkers curled up on my lap and kept me company.
