Oh thank goodness there are documentaries like The Entertainers, the best film we saw all day, and I’m not alone in saying that. It was one of those rare films that has scenes so enjoyable that the audience applauds for them, and people walk out gushing about their favorite.
In ninety minutes, the film tells the stories of six people who love ragtime music with every cell in their bodies, and converge on Peoria, Illinois, every year to compete with other rinky-tink piano players to share the pieces they’ve arranged and have a friendly competition to see which sounds best. The finale, in which the five finalists literally raced across their keyboards, was nothing short of breathtaking. I didn’t hesitate a moment to give this a five.
