in-and-out

What a week it’s been. What am I saying? Every week’s one of those “What a week it’s been!” weeks. Chewed up at the front end, soaked in sewer water all through the middle, and pooped out the back end. But at least I’m out.

And one more lucky guy got out for good. One of the IT guys got promoted to a job somewhere up in the mother of all agencies, so we met at the corner bar after work to send him off. I bought the first round, stayed a little while to introduce My Darling B to everyone and make a little conversation, then we headed home. That was a particularly nice way to end the week.

Just a few things planned for this weekend:

Helping B replace the garden fence. We got half of it replaced two weekends ago on a gorgeously sunny weekend. Then it rained all the next week, so it was too wet and too cold to work on it last weekend. This weekend’s looking very promising, though, so we’ll very likely be out there tearing out the old chicken wire and putting up sparkling new hardware cloth all around.

I’ve got to bottle some beer! There are five gallons of fresh red ale on my work bench, waiting to be bottled. I hope I can find the time to brew another batch this weekend, too, although I haven’t quite decided what I want to brew next. I was thinking of a chocolate stout, but that’s really more a beer for the cooler months of fall. We’ll see.

Other than that, my only desire is to sit and read a book for a couple hours. I have a stack of six or seven in my To Be Read Pile on my bedside stand that I haven’t cracked open in a week. If I could stretch out in the recliner with an open book and a cat in my lap for just a couple hours, I might come out of this weekend a new man.
