Spent the morning moving some file cabinets out of the corner of the basement where we store all that stuff that “we might need later” and moved them to the extra space left next to my desk, now that it’s about three feet shorter. I move them all by myself, even though each of them is built like a tank, using the “shove a piece of wood paneling under it” technique to break traction between the foot of the file cabinet and the carpet. Pretty proud of myself. You would be, too. Oh, yes, you would.
These are real Steel Case file cabinets, not the tin-plate crap you have to settle for at Staples now. Actually, only one of them is a genuine Steel Case from New York. The other was made by Columbia Steel Equipment Company of Pennsylvania, but it’s solid as a battleship as well. Too bad we don’t make stuff like that any more.
Having file cabinets out where I could use them meant I could put stuff away that had been piling up on the desk, on book case shelves, on chairs, on the floor – I scooped it all up and loaded up a drawer of the Steel Case cabinet. Did you get that? One drawer. There’s lots of room for more. Can’t wait to get stuff put away.
