After My Darling B picked me up from work yesterday, we stopped at Olbrich Park to watch the lighting of the solstice bonfire. I thought it would be much later in the evening so I was a little taken aback when B said we would have to go straight there after picking up some lunch meat at Stalzy’s because there wouldn’t be enough time before they lit the fire at sunset to run home and change into some warmer clothes. And she was right, of course, which I should have realized. I’ve watch day turn into night over and over these last couple weeks in the half-hour between quitting time and five o’clock, when B usually picks me up from work. She took the day off yesterday (and all week, so she could visit with Sean) and picked me up at four-thirty, just enough time to get down to the park and run across the street before they set fire to a big tangle of tree branches and straw tied up in a teepee shape as tall as a McDonald’s sign, and wouldn’t that be a lot of fun to set fire to?
