Potiche

13th Annual Wisconsin Film Festival 2011

When I watch French comedies, I begin to see why they like Jerry Lewis so much. I also get the feeling they would’ve been able to enjoy The Three Stooges if only Moe, Larry and Curly had been women.

The line waiting to get into this movie was awe-inspiring! I didn’t even bother to go find the end of it after My Darling B, who went on ahead of our group, telephoned me to say that she was holding a spot on the far end of Carroll Street, two and a half blocks away! Good thing the Orpheum holds several thousand people.

I’d guess the big draw for this movie was Catherine Deneuve. Ironically, the script didn’t give her all that much to do, making her not only the trophy wife of the film’s title but coincidentally of the film’s production, too. Art imitates life.

Three out of five.
