Cluny Brown was a screwball comedy from 1938 starring Charles Boyer, Jennifer Jones and a baby-faced Peter Lawford. I’ll watch just about anything at the Wisconsin Film Fest, but if I don’t get at least one black-and-white classic into the mix I don’t feel as if I’ve achieved movie-watching closure.
“I’d forgotten how broadly they acted in movies back then,” my Mom pointed out. “There was nothing subtle at all about the way they delivered their lines, was there?” No, and that’s what I love about old movies.
Cluny Brown wasn’t balloted, but if it had been I’d have given it a four.
