Detect this!

First of all: Kitty!

And now for something completely different:

While the Assembly galleries will be open to the public on Tuesday, spectators will have to step through a metal detector. It’s the first time metal detectors have been used during the protests. (Associated Press, via the Herald Times-Reporter)

I’ve lived in Madison just a few years, but I’ve never seen metal detectors in the capitol. It’s really very amazing to me that you can still walk into a major government building that doesn’t have metal detectors at the door. You can’t get into the Dane County Courthouse without emptying your pockets, so it impresses the hell out of me that Wisconsin’s capitol doesn’t make you do it.

But now, in the Assembly chambers, they’ve set up a metal detectors. This room, by the way, is used by the guys who think it’s a good idea to pass a law that will let people walking around on the streets with guns concealed in their jackets. Concealed carry’s all right for us, but apparently not so nifty for them.
