I found my library card! Oh Happy Day! I don’t remember exactly when I noticed it was missing from my wallet, but I haven’t been able to lay hands on it for quite a few weeks now. You can see how much attention I pay to the stuff in my wallet.
As it turned out, it wasn’t really lost at all. It was under a book on my desk, a copy of The Federalist that I picked up at the thrift store last summer, implying that the card’s been lost for months! I really didn’t think it had been that long, but the evidence is pretty solid.
I cleaned off my desk to make an open space where I could spread out some old magazines and look for an article I knew was in one of the back issues I’d kept for just that reason, but had no idea which of the hundreds of back issues I owned had the sought-after story. Have you done this to yourself? And don’t you wish you could just shoot yourself for not keeping notes?
I combed through two years worth of back issued but didn’t find the article I was looking for, so I’ll have to be content for now with having my library card back.
