We’re back from a week off, more or less, spent at a cabin on the Chain O’ Lakes in beautiful Waupaca County. If you’ve never been to the Chain O’ Lakes, you need to go, right now. Put down what you’re doing and go. I mean it. It’s the off-season and you can put a canoe or kayak in just about anywhere and paddle to your heart’s content or, if you’re lucky enough to have a cabin by one of the lakes, as we did (eat your heart out), you can just sit on the porch and soak up the peace and quiet. I did both. You don’t have to do exactly what I did to have as much fun, just go there, figure it out for yourself how best to enjoy it, then come back and thank me for making you do it. Go now. I’ll wait.

Good, wasn’t it? Told you.

We didn’t get to stay there quite one whole week. My Darling B had to come back to Madison to work on Monday and Tuesday, so we went up on Friday, stayed until Sunday afternoon, made the return trip, then zoomed right back up there on Tuesday night and resumed our relaxatory posture. Don’t bother looking that up, I just pulled it out of my ass. If Shakespeare and Sarah Palin can do it, I can, too.

It’s just possible that we enjoyed it all the more for having to interrupt it, sort of like the way white paint looks so much more whiter if you put a drop of black in it. I didn’t make that up, I stole that from Ralph Ellison’s The Invisible Man, so if it doesn’t make sense, blame him. It never made any sense to me and I’ve never forgiven him for getting that idea stuck in my head.

Anyway, we enjoyed ourselves quite a lot, even with the interruption, and came back feeling relaxed and refreshed, and now we’re three days into a four-day weekend. Life just keeps getting better and better all the time, doesn’t it?
