WFF day two

Wisconsin film festivalThe Topp Twins was a fun, heartwarming documentary about a couple of farm girls from New Zealand who grew up to become pop-folk singers, talented actors and comedians, successful fighters for civil rights and powerful activists for the country’s anti-nuclear fight. They threw in a generous helping of loving warmth from the bosom of the family, as well as a courageous battle with cancer. Oh, and yodeling. Yodeling! It’s hard to see how they could have made this story any better.

The Host was a mostly so-so monster movie. I asked B to signed up for it because the festival’s promoters gave it a writeup that made it sound as though it was going to be a fun, somewhat campy monster movie, and maybe it was in the original Korean but, if so, quite a lot of the camp got lost in translation. If you caught me in an especially generous mood I might give this one three stars.
